Connections in a network growing exponentially with the square of the number of users

Keep it simple, keep it small.
Experience has taught me that a meeting involving more than five participants is rarely productive.
So, I read with interest this piece about Metcalfe's law (which maps network effects) and the limits on our cognitive capacity to maintain close relationships, which equates to (surprise) five individuals!
Within a group of, say, 14, a sub-group of four or five individuals will always dominate.
If you are not confident of your place in this clique, it's wise to keep your head down as you are not amongst friends, and it's best to remember this.
