Traditionally, reporting to the financier (drawdown reporting) was considered a secondary service provided by the quantity surveyor who performed primary services in pre-construction, such as cost planning, bills of quantity and tender estimates.

Increasingly, some firms have concentrated on reporting to the financier as a primary service, which works well in some circumstances. ​
